The District of Chetwynd is located at the juncture of two
highways: Highway 97 – John Hart Highway and Highway 29. The Hart Highway
runs south to Prince George and east to Dawson Creek. Highway 29 runs north
to Hudson’s Hope and south to Tumbler Ridge.
POPULATION
Chetwynd has a population of
2,833 (2006 Census). According to BC Stats, the
population was estimated at 2,714 (in 2010).

MAJOR EMPLOYMENT AREAS
The Chetwynd area is rich in
oil, gas, coal and timber. Local resources and manufacturing industries
reflect these assets.
Recent natural gas finds to
the south, west and northeast of Chetwynd and Chetwynd’s proximity to
developed and undeveloped coal resources have significantly stimulated the
local economy. New developments include the Pine Valley Mining project
at Willow Creek.
According to Statistics Canada’s Census,
the industries employing the majority of people in the Chetwynd
area are manufacturing, accommodation & food services and retail trade.
