Pouce Coupe is the oldest municipality in
the Peace River region having incorporated in 1932.
It’s a quiet little community that sits
overlooking the Pouce Coupe River surrounded by rolling hills and crop laden
fields. Pouce Coupe sits on Highway 2, 10 km (6.2 mi.) from Dawson Creek and
approximately 35 km (22 mi.) from the Alberta border.
POPULATION
Pouce Coupe has a population of
739 (2006 Census). According to BC Stats, the population
was estimated at 792 (in 2010).
TOP EMPLOYERS
MAJOR EMPLOYMENT AREAS
Two of
the top three industries in Pouce Coupe are also the main industries in
Dawson Creek. Many residents commute to Dawson Creek to work, since it is a
large centre within 10 km of Pouce Coupe.
Caribou Road Services, has
recently been awarded the highway maintenance contract for the South Peace.
They chose to take over the premises used by the previous contractor.
H.F. Nodes Construction has
been located in Pouce Coupe for more than 40 years, expanding to include
locations in Grande Prairie, Hythe and Dawson Creek, working throughout the
Northeastern BC and Northwestern Alberta areas.
Health and social services also
play a large role in Pouce Coupe’s economy. Pouce Coupe has two
retirement homes and extended care facilities. These facilities provide
many jobs in the community in the health and social services industry.
